Her story -- both personal and professional -- grabs your heart and won't let go. She came to this country from Colombia, South America. After earning two master's and a doctoral degree in engineering, she launched a successful career in domestic and international project management.
Then in 2001, her life was turned upside down with the premature birth of her son Zachary. While on life support, a tropical storm hit Houston shutting down all power to the machines keeping Zachary and other preemies alive. He was kept alive manually for nine hours as his mom provided warmth by holding him skin-to-skin to her chest, and his dad and nurses took turns providing breathing manually.
The life-changing experience inspired her to invent the award-winning Zaky, an ergonomically-designed pillow glove that benefits preemies, special-needs and sick babies around the world.
Internationally recognized, Dr. Jackson has received 11 awards including Outstanding Woman-owned Small Business of the Year. Company sales quadrupled and today, the Zaky is used in 300 neonatal ICU's and childcare facilities, and 250 baby specialty stores in seven countries.
Recently she received the Blazing Star Award from the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas at its annual statewide awards luncheon. She shows you step-by-step how to overcome obstacles and turn your aspirations into reality.
