Trailblazing publisher rose from Account Exec to Chief Exec…She shares her story and vision for media chain
She is the first woman publisher in the Austin American-Statesman’s 141-year storied history. After learning the news business in television sales and rising through the corporate ranks of Atlanta-based Cox Media, Jane Williams last year took over one of Austin’s leading media chains.
In her new high-visibility position, she is responsible for business and editorial operations at the American-Statesman, seven community newspapers and the websites statesman.com and austin360.com.
Scarborough research organization reports that the Statesman and its online sites reach more than 830,000 readers in the metro area each week and that more than 70,000 readers per week read iahora sí!, the Statesman’s Spanish language weekly.
Williams will share her success secrets with you – how she rose from Account Executive to Chief Executive – when she speaks to the Women’s Chamber June 8. She will also share her vision for Austin’s daily newspaper in a time of media turmoil and transformation. This is a must-see!

About Jane
Jane Williams, who learned the news business in sales at Atlanta television station WSB and rose to vice president of sales at Cox Media Group, is the publisher of the Austin American-Statesman and The Statesman Co., Austin’s leading media business, which publishes newspapers and websites and also acts as a regional commercial printer and distribution company.
As Publisher, she is responsible for all business and editorial operations of the Statesman and its affiliated publications including statesman.com, austin360.com and seven weekly community newspapers.
After launching her media career in television, Jane joined Cox Television’s WSB-TV in 1988 as an account executive and became a sales manager in 1997. Seven years later she assumed the Director of Sales position. In 2007, she was promoted to Vice President of Sales for Cox Television and in 2009 assumed the position of Vice President of Sales for Cox Media Group, a multi-billion-dollar broadcasting, publishing, direct marketing and digital media company based in Atlanta. In 2011 Williams was promoted to Publisher of the Statesman.
Jane was awarded the ABAC (Atlanta Broadcast Advertising Club) lifetime achievement award in 2009. She serves on the Board of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. A past President of the Atlanta Broadcast Advertising Club, she is a past member of the Television Bureau of Advertising’s Board of Directors and of the University of Georgia’s Marketing Executive Advisory Board.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Jane graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She and husband Hal have two children. She enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

Registration Policy
Advance registration is required.
No cancellations after Wednesday prior to the meeting. Add $10 after Wednesday prior to the meeting. Nonmembers must register and pay online in advance. Dues must be current to receive member discount. “No shows” will be billed.
