About The Chamber

The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Texas was founded in the late 1980s by a dozen or so charter members who saw a need for a business organization focused on economic development for women. The founders searched for models but discovered only a handful of women’s chambers nationwide. Some were civic organizations affiliated with metro chambers; none had a statewide focus.

Our founders were working women determined to develop an organizational vision relevant for today’s women. It led to a lot of give and take, you might say, and an open-minded, exploratory culture that endures in our organization. It took a couple of years to develop the new Chamber and get it off the ground. It was an instant hit. Seven-hundred people attended the launch.
We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan business organization with a strategic focus on economic development for women. In that arena, we have become a respected voice for today’s Texas woman.

Our Mission is to advance economic parity and prosperity for women by providing
  • Informative and inspirational programs for business and professional growth
  • Executive networking opportunities to develop rewarding relationships
  • Proactive advocacy on women’s business issues
Our Issues go to the bottom line. We take an interest in matters that affect your ability to achieve your professional goals.

Our Members are as diverse as the communities in which they work. Approximately half own companies. Others work in industries ranging from accounting to technology, as well as education, government, the arts, nonprofit groups, associations, other chambers and business groups. Members share a common goal. They want to grow their companies or careers in a supportive atmosphere.
